Day 1: Tarangire

Ancient Baobab trees (the largest in Africa) dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River that meanders through the park attracts an abundance of wildlife from elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, antelope and large varieties of colorful birds. The park is well known for having the greatest population of elephants in Tanzania. During the safari you will have the chance to quietly observe many families of these majestic animals interacting with each other. With a stop for a picnic lunch in a park observatory, you will be able to view the wildlife drinking water in the river and many times a lion can be seen attacking a thirsty zebra or wildebeest. You will continue game viewing and finally return to the camp or lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2: Lake Manyara

Depart after breakfast and drive across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day game drive. Although only 205 sq. miles in size, this enchanting park is noted for its beauty and lush acacia forest of giant fig and mahogany trees. The forests are home to troops of baboon and blue monkey. This park is famous for its climbing lions and the large numbers of flamingos along the lake shore. The park is also home to large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, elephant, impala and hippos, which can be found in large numbers at the aptly named Hippo lake. Well known for its birds (over 400 different species), Lake Manyara is one of the few places where you’ll be able to see the Ground Hornbill and the Crested Eagle. The landscape, very different from the Serengeti, is absolutely stunning. The drives take place along the shore of the lake, providing incredible views of giraffes and buffalos in the foreground with the lake and flamingos in full view.

Day 3: Lake Manyara – Serengeti National Park

Today you are off to Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Migration. On the way crossing the Conservation area you will stop at the top of the  rim for a bird’s eye view of the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Continuing on, as the hillside spreads out before you as far as the eye can see, you will witness the vast expanse of the Serengeti, which means “endless plains” in Kiswahili. This 6,000 sq. mile park is inhabited by more than two million large animals, including more than a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle. Large predators, including lion, cheetah, and hyena, are drawn to this area by the abundance of prey which migrates throughout the park. Many smaller animals like rock hyrax, bat-eared fox, mongoose, honey badger, jackals, monkey, baboon, and hare, as well as nearly 500 species of bird, also inhabit the area.
